Martha L. Bruce is Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Department of Community and Family Medicine, and The Dartmouth Institute (TDI) of Health Policy and Clinical Practice at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Dr. Bruce has dedicated much of her career to mentoring and supporting the career development pipeline of new generations of researchers. She has served as the primary mentor/sponsor for NIMH mentored career development (K) awards, co-mentor for many other K awardees, and mentor to numerous postdoctoral research fellows and other early-career investigators both within her institutions and nationally.

As additional evidence of her administrative leadership capacity, Dr. Bruce has served as the Chair of two standing NIH study sections for a total of 5 years, 10 NIH ad hoc study sections, 3 PCORI study sections, and a CDC study section. In addition to her NIH-funded career development programs, Dr. Bruce was the Principal Investigator of a three-site Interventions and Practice Research Infrastructure Program (IP-RISP; R24 MH64608); four-site research study funded by the New York State Health Foundation; a randomized trial conducted in home health agencies located in six states (R01 MH082425); a randomized trial of 120 home health agencies nationwide (R01 MH096441); and an ongoing study funded by the AARP Foundation involving home delivered meal clients from across New Hampshire and in Austin, Texas.

Renee Pepin is a Assistant Professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Pepin has served as the ARI Program Manager since 2017. Dr. Pepin is a clinical geropsychologist by training who specializes in community-partnered research in aging and social service settings; her focus is the development and implementation of novel community-based mental health care delivery models for older adults.  At Dartmouth, Dr. Pepin also oversees the research career development program for the Community and Family Medicine.

Faith Gunning is an Associate Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry, Director of Neuropsychology for Psychiatry and Vice Chair for Psychology. She has extensive experience in NIMH-supported research focused on the cognitive and affective neuros science of aging. She serves as Co-Director of the T32 for the Weill-Cornell Institute of Geriatric Psychiatry (PI: Alexopoulos). In her leadership role in Weill Cornell’s Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Gunning guides the clinical and research training of clinical neuropsychology fellows who are specializing in the clinical and cognitive neuroscience of aging-related psychiatric and neurologic illnesses (e.g., late-life depression, stroke, neurodegenerative illnesses).

As the Vice Chair for Psychology, Dr. Gunning oversees the academic development of 8 psychology postdoctoral fellows who aim to develop careers as clinician scientists. Further, she is Co-Director of the Psychiatry Department’s Clinical Scholars’ Program, a program that facilitates the scholarly activities and academic progress of promising MD and Ph.D. junior faculty.

On a national level, Dr. Gunning served as a mentor in two R25 mentoring programs: 1) the NIMH Summer Research Institute in Geriatric Mental Health (R25 MH019946); 2) the NIMH Advanced Research Institute (R25 MH068502). Dr. Gunning is a member of the National Scientific Advisory Board for the American Federation for Aging Research. She will devote 15% effort to this R25.

George Alexopoulos is the S.P. Tobin and A.M. Cooper Professor, Director, Weill-Cornell Institute of Geriatric Psychiatry and Vice Chair for Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr. Alexopoulos has been the Director of 4 consecutive NIMH Center (ACISR) grants. He has received consistent R01 support for longer than 25 years, including a NIMH MERIT Award. His projects include longitudinal clinical observation, RCTs, electrophysiology, neuroimaging, psychopharmacology, and novel behavioral interventions. In addition to his research, he has received formal training as an educator in geriatric psychiatry supported by a NIMH-funded Faculty Development Award in Geriatric Mental Health (T01 MH017508).

Dr. Alexopoulos has been the Director of the T32 Research Fellowship program at Weill-Cornell since 1990 and the Director of the ACGME-approved Clinical Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry from 1989 until 2003. He has served as primary mentor of eight K Award recipients, including Dr. Gunning, and co-mentor of two K Award recipients. On a national level, Dr. Alexopoulos served on the NIMH Board of Scientific Counselors. He has organized and chaired the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) NIMH K Award Recipients Meeting during the past 10 years. This is an annual meeting in which K Award recipients report on their progress and receive advice from senior mentors. During the past 10 years, Dr. Alexopoulos served as permanent faculty and member of the Executive Committee of the NIMH Summer Research Institute and as of 2010 as its co-Director (R25 MH019946).
