Howard Aizenstein, MD, PhD, is Professor of Psychiatry, Associate Professor Bioengineering and Clinical and Translational Science, Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Neuroimaging Laboratory, and Co-director of Psychiatry Neuroimaging, University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Aizenstein is an internationally recognized expert on cognitive and affective neuroscience, aging, and geriatric psychiatry.  His is a geriatric psychiatrist and a computer scientist (Computer Science PhD, 1993).  His research program uses different converging methodologies, including structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging to identify key brain markers associated with cognitive and affective processing, and change in these markers with and without intervention.  Dr. Aizenstein has a long history of NIH research funding (R01s, RF1, P30 cores) and for many years has been MPI for the NIMH T32 postdoctoral program “Clinical and Translational Research Training in Geriatric Mental Health”  Dr. Aizenstein is a valued and sought after mentor (as well as co-mentor) for trainees from a range of perspectives and career stages.  He has successfully mentored computational scientists interested in clinical research as well as clinical scientists interested in neuroimaging research. His mentoring expertise has been recognized locally (recipient of 2009 WPIC Mentorship Award), nationally (invited faculty mentor for several NIH funded mental health research institutes). He has successfully mentored several international researchers.  Dr. Aizenstein was in ARI’s first cohort of Scholars and later joined the ARI faculty and then Steering Committee.

Jo Anne Sirey, PhD is Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and currently the Principal Investigator for the Weill Cornell ALACRITY for Mid- and Late-Life Mood Disorders (P50 MH113838). The Institute uses neurobiology models to simplify behavioral interventions for use by community therapists and to implement these interventions in partnership with community providers to increase access to quality care for underserved adults. Dr. Sirey received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from City University of New York and completed a post-doctoral Fellowship at Weill-Cornell Medical College.  Her research has focused on developing and testing the effectiveness of community-based interventions to reduce depression in later life. This work grew out of her early research documenting the negative impact of stigma on mental health treatment participation and adherence to depression treatment. Dr. Sirey is a leader in community-based, partnered intervention research and has an expertise in developing and implementing service delivery programs to serve diverse, multi-lingual older adults in non-mental health settings. She has had consistent NIMH funding since 2001 including a Career Award, 4 R01s and is the current Director of the Weill Cornell ALACRITY Center. In addition to her research, she oversees service delivery programs bringing mental health services to elder abuse victims and older adults in congregate meals settings throughout New York City.  Dr. Sirey has contributed to ARI since its inception in 2003; she was an ARI Scholar, the Associate Director supporting Dr. Bruce when she was at Weill Cornell, and on the ARI Steering Committee since 2015.

Martha L. Bruce, PhD, MPH is Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Department of Community and Family Medicine, and The Dartmouth Institute (TDI) of Health Policy and Clinical Practice at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.  A community-based health services researcher/implementation scientist, she is the Director of the Community Engagement and Outreach Core of Dartmouth’s (COBRE) Center for Rural Health Care Delivery Science, Director of the Clinical and Implementation Research Skills Program Dartmouth’s node of the Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network (CTSN), and Scientific Director for Dartmouth Health Academic Support Hub. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) having served on the AAGP Board of Directors and chair AAGP’s Geriatric Mental Health Foundation. She was a standing member of the NIMH Mental Health Services Research study sections for nine years; serving as Chair for five years. served as the Chair. Dr. Bruce has mentored numerous K awardees and other early career investigators both locally and nationally. In addition to ARI, she served as PI for a NIHM-funded R25 institute for postdoctoral fellows and as PI or Co-PI for several T32 postdoctoral research programs.  Dr. Bruce, in collaboration with members of the founding Steering Committee (Drs. Bartels, Sheline, and Smith), designed the original ARI program and helped nurture and shape its growth over 20 years.

Renee Pepin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and Dartmouth Health. Dr. Pepin is the ARI Associate Directors for Educational Programming. Dr. Pepin is a clinical geropsychologist by training who specializes in community-partnered research in aging and social service settings. Her focus is the development and delivery of  brief behavioral interventions for social connectedness and depressive symptoms for community-dwelling  older adults.  At Dartmouth, Dr. Pepin also oversees a research career development program for early-stage clinician-researchers.
